HAPPY PI DAY!

Happy Pi Day everyone!  Today is a special Pi Day, being that Pi begins with 3.1415 and today is 3/14/15.  This will only happen once every century.Pi is defined as the ratio of a circle’s circumference (the distance around the edge of the circle) to its diameter (the distance across the circle, traveling through the center). So Pi = C/d.   Because it is closely related to the circle, Pi is found in many formulae from the fields of geometry and trigonometry, particularly those concerning circles, spheres, or ellipses.

Since Pi is an irrational number (meaning it can’t be expressed as a common fraction), it has an infinite number of digits in decimal form.  The record for memorizing digits of Pi, certified by Guinness World Records, is 67,890 digits!  It took an amazing 24 hours and 4 minutes to recite.  Unbelievable!
